The Watchman Project's R.S.V.P. initiative (Respond, Shepherd, Victim Support, and Policy) focuses on
empowering multifaith clergy to respond effectively to incidents of gun violence in their communities. R.S.V.P. equips religious leaders with the knowledge, resources, and skills to provide trauma-informed support, facilitate healing and reconciliation, and promote peaceful solutions in the aftermath of tragic events. The Watchman Project is a partner member of Clergy for Safe Cities, a national multifaith collective of clergy and community leaders committed to gun violence reduction.
At THE WATCHMAN PROJECT, our vision for R.S.V.P. is first to Respond. R.S.V.P. is Ready to Respond, Ready to Protect through a trained cadre of "Street Chaplains." These interfaith leaders are equipped to respond to gun violence incidences in real time.
Faith leaders are influential change agents in their communities. The team at the Watchman Project works alongside clergy, providing tools and strategies for becoming more invested and present in the communities where their houses of worship exist.
Victims and their families are not only traumatized by gun violence, but are often in need of vwrap-around vital services. R.S.V.P. helps to bridge victims to resources seamlessly through partnerships with grassroots Violence Interuppters and community-based services.
The Watchman Project staff recognizes the importance of fostering healthy relationships between public safety agencies and the communities they serve. Faith leaders can serve as crucial liaisons by advocating for policies as well as leveraging their relationship with influencers in government and in the various neighborhoods in their city.
